The highlight of this week was definitely our visit from the Ministry of Chocolate, who trained our pupils to become certified ‘Level 10 Chocolatologists’. First we learnt about the history of chocolate and how the Maya used cacao nibs, herbs and hot water to make a medicinal, energising drink for warriors. We then went on a journey from cocoa farmer to chocolate factory, and realised just how important it is to choose fairtrade products. Finally, the secret recipes for white, milk and dark chocolate were revealed and we got a chance to taste samples and use our five senses to describe them. We then got hands on and created our own unique chocolate bars with a variety of tasty toppings. Of course, this came with a reminder about staying healthy; Cacao may be a superfood that is full of antioxidants and minerals, but some types of chocolate are full of fat and should only be eaten as an occasional treat!
