To bring our Stone Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age topic to life, the children had a go at whittling their own spears.  They listened very carefully to all the safety rules on using the knifes and concentrated very hard on removing the bark from their stick and they then tried to create a point at the end.  They did a really great job and were very pleased with their results.
