The children have been learning about materials and their properties in Science. They were challenged to find the best material to make an umbrella with that Katie may need when she is in London. The children had a small plastic replica Katie to and pieces of different materials to pour water over and find out if they kept Katie dry! Throughout the investigation there was a lot of scientific discussion and questions such as 'what if it kept raining, would the paper still be waterproof? The children decided cellophane and rubber were the most waterproof but the cellophane needed to be thicker. They discovered the material was too absorbent to be waterproof and Katie would end up soaking wet!
