The Year 5/6 children had an interesting and educational time at Wicken Fen last week. They all got to go out on to the reserve and visit the water pump and here they were taught all about the history and maintenance of the area. They visited the workman’s cottage and looked around the work shed and were told all about what life was like on the fens in the past. They all got to have a go at pond dipping where a couple of newts were uncovered along with a variety of other pond life. The children have used this experience to assist them with their own research about the fens and to understand the fascinating history of their local area.
