Foundation Stage

5 minutes a day of phonics

At least 5 minutes a day of reading

Phonics weekly
Reading daily

One choice book and one scheme, coloured banded book
Parents can change the children's choice book at the end of the day and record in home school partnership diary
From the spring term weekly topic related activities will be sent home

We will send home what the children will be learning the following week by email  / hardcopy to parents

Year 1

1 hour a week

Plus 5 x of reading (minimum of 10 minutes a session)

Weekly phonics – this will be in the form of a reference book which is added to, for parents’ information
Half termly sheet showing activities which are topic related - children to choose which activity to complete (some activities are maths and English based ) – to be completed in their scrap book where appropriate
We are expecting to see 1 x weekly of these topic activities
Reading books

  • A guided book (already read in guided reading) to be sent home

  • and a choice book

We will send home what the children will be learning the following week by email  / hardcopy to parents

Year 2

1 hour a week

And a minimum of 10 minutes, 5 times a week, of reading

Weekly maths linking to learning
Termly sheet showing activities which are topic related - children to choose which activity to complete (some activities are maths and English based ) – to be completed in their scrap book where appropriate
We are expecting to see 1 x weekly of these topic activities
Reading books - guided book and choice book         

We will send home what the children will be learning the following week by email  / hardcopy to parents

Years 3/4 1 ½  hours a week

Weekly maths activities.
Half Termly sheet showing activities which are topic related - children to choose which activity to complete - children to choose, English / science / art / DT based 
Reading books - guided book kept in school
1 x teacher led book and 1 choice book from the library (unless they are Lime band or above, then they will have a choice book)
When the teacher decides it is appropriate, the children can choose books, children who need support with their reading will have a teacher led book

Half termly spelling lists will be sent home but will not be used as a test

 
Years 5/6 2 hours a week

1 x weekly maths linking to learning

Termly sheet showing activities which are topic related - children to choose which activity to complete - this is English focussed
Spellings are produced for children to practise at home but will not be used in a test situation
Reading books – children who need a more focused approach in their reading will have a scheme book

Children can choose to take their books home
