Tithe Barn

Tithe Barn in Landbeach....

On Tuesday 5th November , 10 children went to visit the Tithe Barn in Landbeach acting as ambassadors for the school. We had three wonderful guides, Maggie, Ray and Jeff the thatcher who showed us around the inside and outside of the building, which is currently being restored. First we carefully climbed up a ladder to look at the inside of the roof and the existing thatch and structure of the barn. We then climbed down to look at the drawings of the building. After that we climbed up another ladder and onto the scaffolding to look at the exterior of the thatch. The children asked some really good questions and listened really well. Once we were all safely back on the ground, Jeff then showed them the three different types of straw and reed that are used for the different layers of the thatch and talked to them about how he uses special tools for different jobs. The children were amazingly well behaved and really rose to their role as school ambassadors.  We look forward to visiting again in the future when the refurbishment is completed.
